Mississippi Blues Google Earth Geo-Tagged Project
ScreenCast of Mississippi Blues Google Earth Geo-Tagged Project
Overview:
This locative media project was part of the the National Black Programming Consortium’s New Media Institute. We spent 6 grueling but great days in Mississippi using new media tools to geo-tag and “locate” 3 of the Blues Markers on the Mississippi Blues Trail. We encourage you to download the Google Earth file (extension .kmz) and to take the virtual tour.
We hoped to increase the knowledge of the role that communities play in building musical formats, and to connect the participants to a geographical place directly, intimately, and with immediacy, thereby conveying information, historical experiences, and knowledge experientially. Our hope was to provide an experience that engages the community and facilitates stewardship and connections among the community and the land.
